Question
What does "pre-poo" mean?
Answer
Pre-pooing , as used in the natural hair community, usually refers to the deep conditioning of hair before it is washed with shampoo. This can be done in several ways and may or may include the use of a steamer or overhead dryer.
Typically, hair is first misted with water but this can also be done on dry hair. After misting, a deep conditioner is used on hair as directed on the bottle/jar. Some people cover their hair with a plastic cap then use a steamer, overhead dryer or warm towel on top of the hair. Heat is popularly believed to enhance the conditioning properties of many deep conditioners.
After this, hair is shampooed as usual. You may or may not follow-up with an instant conditioner depending on the condition of your hair or your styling needs.
Pre-pooing is considered a wonderful alternative to jumping in an out of the shower or sink and makes the hair washing/care process a lot easier and brief.
